Position Description Manages a unit within a department. Plans, organizes and develops goals and procedures for the unit. Represents the unit to administrators, outside agencies and others on relevant matters. Supervises subordinate staff.
Major/Essential Functions Report to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for College of Architecture (CoA).
Communicate with Department Chair, faculty, and departmental administrators regarding academic affairs.
Leads and supervises the CoA academic advising team, presently two employees.
Strategy Building- working with Associate Dean and team to implement and accomplish College goals.
Hold team accountable for reaching established goals, regarding:
Coordination of teaching schedule and assignments
Processing approvals for travel and special course fees.
Coordination with the scheduler in Registrar’s office for classroom assignments.
Assisting students in establishing realistic and attainable academic goals.
Assistance with documentation of curriculum development and approval process (working in Curriculog system)
- Identify and advise at-risk students, including probation and suspension, grade appeals, conflict resolution etc. Refer students to counseling and services provided by other campus support units.
Process, track and report on outcomes at requested frequencies. HB 2504 digital measures, SLO, Track Dat, NAAB, THECB etc.
Track student advising activities including advising, scholarships, student petitions, transfer course evaluation, grade audit, probation, dismissal, retention, graduation, and monitor and report as required by the College and university.
Faculty workload calculations
Represent CoA in University Advising Committees.
Academic event coordination (Convocation, Commencement Receptions, etc.)
May assist with registration for CoA through university booking system (Ad Astra)
May help coordinate incoming Freshmen scholarships
Occasional Duties May work to align offsite Architecture program advisors with CoA processes.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree plus three years supervisory experience; OR a combination of education and/or supervisory experience to equal seven years.
Master’s Degree with 3-5 years' experience in higher education
Previous academic advising experience
Knowledge of TTU systems and processes (e.g. Banner, Cognos, Course fees, Academic standing, Curriulog)
Working knowledge of federal guidelines, academic records, admission procedures, and student resources
Experience with coordinating and leading academic events (e.g. convocation, orientation)
Experience with College of Architecture curriculum
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work with diverse populations; demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to socio and cultural communication styles
