Position Description Performs supervisory and participatory work in the construction, erection, installation, and repair of structures and fixtures. Responsibilities include the supervision of a work crew involved in the construction, alteration, repair, and maintenance of equipment, furnishings, and various other structures and fixtures. Duties also include the actual hands-on work in this area. Work is performed under the general supervision of the foreman with evaluation based on results obtained. May supervise other assigned workers.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Performs cost estimates for Building Maintenance & Construction Project Team using RS Means. These estimates need to be complete,including all trades, contracts and fees. Review drawings and specifications before estimating project. Notifies appropriate project manager for any discrepancies found.

  • Maintains project record files for projects under construction. Includes a review of mark-up drawings and specifications to ensure the represent what is actually complete in the field.

  • Provides construction management consulting services to the department's staff, shops and project managers as required.

  • Read and review technical literature on products, process codes, laws and regulations for project development and design standards to improve efficiency and effectiveness of current and future projects.

  • Ability to read and understand drawings & specifications of a project to ensure accurate estimates.

  • Excellent working knowledge of construction in the structural, electrical and mechanical fields.

  • Requires the ability to organize work load and perform under pressure in public contact & internal departmental capacity. Good communication skills, both written & verbal, to deal with customers, shop personnel, project managers & other department personnel.

  • Have a valid drivers' license and insurability. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle safely and efficiently.

Occasional Duties Performs related work as required.

Required Qualifications Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Two years experience as a licensed journeyman in designated trade; or five years related experience. Job-related vocational training or education may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Have a working knowledge of the Uniform Building Code, the Uniform Plumbing Code and the National Electric Code.

  • Functional in computer software programs: Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Access and TMA and RS Means

  • Ability to estimate and inspect all phases of assigned construction projects with major emphasis on accuracy and quality.
