Performs manual work involving the cleaning and care of buildings. Individuals in this position are expected to know and follow accepted custodial procedures associated with their job, to develop some understanding of other related jobs in the organization, and possibly act as lead worker in a group of custodians. Responsibility for the application of accepted cleaning methods and materials in the custodial maintenance of apartments, lounges, offices, bathrooms, classrooms, and other areas requiring continuous physical activity. Work is performed under general supervision and evaluated for conformance to established practices and standards. Performs related duties as required
Up to 25%
Sweeps and mops hard surfaced floor areas, vacuums carpeted areas, and empty trash. Paying attention to detail in all areas of cleaning, such as cleaning walls, trash cans or trash room areas, corners, edges, etc.
Uses and cares for equipment in a safe and proper manner.
Promotes and practices safety in the workplace.
Reports needed repairs and property damage to a supervisor or through the work order system.
Orders supplies as needed for maintaining building stock on a daily basis.
Uses chemicals in a safe and proper manner.
Assumes supervisor duties in the absence of the Lead Custodian.
Demonstrates basic methods, and use of materials, and equipment to new employees.
Assigns and supervises the work of the custodial staff in an assigned area or building.
Completes visual and written inspections and complete quality control sheets as required.
This is a Security Level II position which requires the completion of a background check and drug test.
Minimum Hire Rate:
7:30AM-4:30PM Mon-Fri, Emergency Calls, weekend schedule, move in, on call and variable work schedule
Ability to understand simple written and verbal instructions as evidenced by the completion of an elementary school education.

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.
Performs work including emergency cleanup of rooms, summer conference, shut down, carpet shampoo, strip and wax. Performs related work as required.

Two years experience in general custodial work. Working knowledge of the basic methods, materials, and equipment used in assigned work. Ability to understand and follow general instructions. Ability to operate and use cleaning equipment. Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time. General knowledge of related jobs in the organization.
