Supervises and directs work involving direction of the activities of grounds keeping employees and participating in moderately heavy manual work. Supervises ten or more employees. Work is performed outdoors with exposure to hazardous equipment.
Up to 25%
Recommend or initiate personnel actions, such as hires, promotions, transfers, discharges, or disciplinary measures.
Counsel employees about work-related issues and assist employees to correct job-skill deficiencies.
Monitor employees' work levels and review work performance.
Basic knowledge of trees, including identification, growth habits and correct arboricultural techniques for pruning, removal, and planting trees on campus.
Knowledge of chainsaw operation, chipper, stump grinder, and equipment assigned to this crew.
Ability to maintain and clean all equipment assigned to this crew.
Assist other crews as needed.
Ability to work in adverse conditions.
Utilize all appropriate personal protective equipment.
Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and skill of personnel.
Conduct or arrange for worker training in safety, repair, or maintenance techniques, operational procedures, or equipment use.
Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Environmental Health & Safety, and departmental policies and procedures using Proper Protective Equipment.
Examine grounds, systems, or facilities and analyze information to determine needed installations, services, or repairs.
Develop, implement, or evaluate maintenance policies and procedures.
This is an essential personnel position. You will need to be available for on call duty or emergency maintenance or to assist in campus preparation due to inclement weather or hazardous weather conditions.
Performs related work as needed.
- Class A Commercial Driver's License.
Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.

Completion of high school or the equivalent, preferably including courses in Spanish. Three years experience in grounds maintenance, including experience in equipment operation and gardening techniques.
