Position Description Performs specialized work in conducting original research. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Ability to work in Word and Excel on the computer.

  • Work with various species of animals such as pigs, dogs, cats, horses, and rats.

  • Ability to lift and/or restrain animals for sample collection.

  • Work with data collection equipment, such as cameras, video recorders and computers.

  • Ability to drive to research sites; to work with and supervise student workers; to write concisely and informatively.

  • Organize and conduct research projects.

  • Responsible for schedules, data collection, lab analysis, and summary.

  • Write Grant proposals for future projects, maintain IACUC protocols and amendments.

  • Work with university veterinarian regarding project animals and protocols; and purchase supplies.

  • Will supervise 10-12 hours per week working with students on research projects, papers and grants. 3-4 graduate students and 3-4 undergraduate students

Occasional Duties

Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree particular field of science or engineering, One year research experience. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree particular field of science or engineering, One year research experience.

  • Knowledge of performing, interpreting and writing original research with a goal of publication in appropriate journals. Knowledge of basic animal care, behavior and humane restraint.

  • Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof.

  • Experience writing/preparing manuscripts for publication.

Minimum Hire Rate 11.5

Pay Statement Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.
