Position Description Safely performs journeyman level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Safely performs service plumbing repairs: residential and commercial.

  • Installs and repairs transmission and service lines (water, sewer, gas).

  • Installs and remodels plumbing fixtures and systems.

  • Safely performs maintenance, repair, and installation of pumps.

  • Willingly accepts and accomplishes all assigned tasks that are not detrimental to personal safety or equipment function.

  • Abides by safety policies and procedures; applicable governmental codes and regulations; andTTU/OPs, PP/OPs and current published policies.

  • Supports the SERVICEplus philosophy of Texas Tech University in work attitudes and actions.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Three years experience in designated trade or licensed journeyman.

Preferred Qualifications

Journeyman plumbing license preferred, but not required.

Become registered with Texas State Board of Plumbing examiners and pass journeyman test with the state to become licensed within one year of employment.

Excellent working knowledge and experience in the plumbing field including: systems, fixtures, appliances and related materials.

Good communication skills, both written and verbal, to deal with customers, shop personnel and other department personnel.

Working knowledge of operation and safe use of all power and hand tools/equipment common to the plumbing field.

Proficiency in the interpretation of freehand sketches, schematics, blueprints, as-built drawings, diagrams and technical publications related to this position.

Knowledge of Uniform Plumbing Code andNFPAstandards.
