Position Description Safely performs journeyman level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Perform painting tasks to include: preparation of various types of surfaces by scraping, sanding, and cleaning; applying paint, varnish, lacquer or other finishes.

  • Mix and match paint, stain, lacquer, and other finishes.

  • Refinish and restore interior painting surfaces including modifications or alterations to buildings.

  • Maintain records of materials and labor expended for each project or job assignment.

  • Operate vehicles including, pickups, trucks, and vans.

  • Maintain vehicle, tools, equipment, and material in an orderly and safe condition.

  • Complete other tasks as assigned by shop foreman.

  • This position is a Security Level II position requiring a background and drug test.

Required Qualifications Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Three years experience in designated trade or licensed journeyman.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of experience as a journeyman level painter. Accredited journeyman level certified training as a painter can be substituted for work experience on a year-by-year basis.

  • Must pass pulmonary function test and be certified to wear negative pressure respirator.

  • Must have sufficient strength to lift a maximum of sixty (60) pounds and move this load from one location to another.

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with customers, shop personnel, and other department personnel.

  • Working knowledge of operation and safe use of all power and hand tools/equipment common to the painting field.

Minimum Hire Rate 13.41

Pay Statement Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.

Travel Required Up to 25%

Shift Day

Schedule Details 7:30am -4:30pm Monday through Friday. Must be available to respond to emergency callbacks outside of normal work hours.
