Position Description Performs supervisory and participatory work in the construction, erection, installation, and repair of structures and fixtures. Responsibilities include the supervision of a work crew involved in the construction, alteration, repair, and maintenance of equipment, furnishings, and various other structures and fixtures. Duties also include the actual hands-on work in this area. Work is performed under the general supervision of the foreman with evaluation based on results obtained. May supervise other assigned workers.
Assesses job material requirements and prepares requisition for materials from supply warehouse or vendor.
Inspects and safely performs recurring maintenance to mechanical/equipment rooms and installed equipment. Monitors and supervises work site operation. Maintains records of materials and labor expended for each job assignment.
Assists the shop foreman in the preparation of all administrative/personnel actions within the assigned crew team.Attends scheduled meetings and training as required to maintain technical skills and qualifications.
Advises shop foreman on job status and operational problems.
Provides assistance in the operational control, direction and management over the Carpenter Shop work center to include: operations, maintenance, renovations and new construction. Assists and instructs crew members on job assignments.
Trains personnel in the apprenticeship training program and temporary laborers on job-related maintenance tasks.
Assists shop foreman in developing projects, preparing cost estimates, coordinating work requirements and providing supervision for new construction within area of responsibility.
Reviews new construction project plans and prepares cost estimates required for projects. Repairs and/or installs acoustical suspended ceiling, ceramic tile, brick or CMU block, floor coverings and concrete. Repairs and water-proofs various types of roofs.
Maintains professional personal appearance.
Constructs repairs and installs doors, cabinets, shelves, windows and wood and glass panels. Performs alterations to existing structures by installing or removing walls, partitions or similar construction.
Maintains vehicle, tools, equipment and materials in an orderly and safe condition. Operates vehicles including pickups, trucks and vans. Secures vehicle, equipment and areas of operation.
Attends scheduled meetings and trainings as required to maintain mechanical skills and technical qualifications. Provides after hours overtime work as required. Participates in emergency callback roster on a rotating basis.
Supports the Continuous Improvement philosophy of the Operations Division and complies with the OD Safety Program to include all safety and health rules, regulations and operating policies and procedures. Complies with all attendance policies and guidelines.
Completes other tasks as assigned by shop foreman
Occasional Duties Performs related work as necessary
Required Qualifications Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Two years experience as a licensed journeyman in designated trade; or five years related experience. Job-related vocational training or education may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications Minimum five (5) years on-the-job experience as a journeyman carpenter
