Position Description Safely performs journeyman level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Major/Essential Functions * Administers and monitors disabling fire suppression zones as necessary.
Initiates work orders thru Work Control for any building systems that are found to be deficient.
Fire System Preventive Maintenance: Remove smoke detectors following manufacturer's detailed procedure and using required test equipment, shop clean, record sensitivity, and test for alarm conditions. Reinstall and field test; follow test sprinkler system, verify flow alarm and tamper alarm. Work is performed in interstitial area.
Troubleshoot fire alarm system: Trace out conduit and wires at various locations in the interstitial; following a schematic diagram troubleshoot and install class "A" and "B" fire loops; program Honeywell FS90 fire alarm panel for new circuit installations; troubleshoot indicating fire loops - i.e., horn and lights, audible devices.
Security System Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Weekly test of a required number of building security points; troubleshoots and replaces proximity switches at various building security locations; troubleshoots and installs magnetic lock card reader systems.
Secures necessary supplies and materials from Central Stores as required for completion of work orders and required tasks and/or directives.
Documents and records work accomplished, time expended, and parts used on appropriate forms and in the CMMS work order system.
Occasional Duties * Performs any and all related job duties as deemed necessary and assigned by any supervisory level Plant Operations personnel.
Performs on-call duties as essential personnel of the institution and at the direction of the institution.
Operates state vehicles as necessary to pick up parts, travel to other campuses to perform work, etc.
Required Qualifications Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Three years experience in designated trade or licensed journeyman.
Preferred Qualifications Prefer two years of formal electronic training. Three years of experience in electronic troubleshooting and repair. Good manual dexterity. Must be in good physical condition to work in the interstitial area. Basic knowledge of tools, materials, methods and practices of electronic technology. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Skill in using the standard tools and equipment basic to electronic technology. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.

Pay Statement Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.
Travel Required Up to 25%
Schedule Details Monday thru Friday 8 to 5; On-call as needed for building emergencies.
