Position Description A job involving an appointment for less than four and one-half months which are of a non-recurring nature.

Major/Essential Functions Major/Essential Functions

  • Must work cohesively and promote a productive atmosphere.

  • Record procedures and data in laboratory notebook.

  • Conduct laboratory support activities (ordering supplies, preparing solutions, washing and sterilizing surgical instruments, etc.)

  • Assist P.I., postdocs, and students in misc. tasks (examples: training new students, postdocs and other investigators in various scientific procedures; library work; preparation of talks, grants and publications.)

  • This employee is responsible for aiding graduate and undergraduate students in their research by providing advice or direct help when necessary.

  • Maintain yeast growth experiments and cultures.

  • Perform yeast genetic and molecular biology techniques and experiments, including but not limited to: sporulation, haploid dissection, genotyping, PCR, cloning, gel electrophoresis, cell culture, and use of dissection microscopes.

Required Qualifications Due to the broad nature of work found in this job, minimum qualifications for a particular job will be determined by the hiring manager. The qualifications will be commensurate with level and nature of work to be performed.

Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with yeast cell culture techniques

  • Ability to work carefully and to pay attention to detail

  • Knowledge of molecular biology laboratory techniques and procedures

  • Familiarity with common laboratory equipment and microdissector microscopes

  • Experience handling sensitive substances

  • Understanding of scientific method, biology, and biochemistry

  • A working knowledge of computers

  • Ability to communicate well for complete understanding between employee, supervisor and other personnel in the laboratory

  • Ability to follow and implement general instructions

  • Ability to anticipate needs and identify problems
