Position Description Performs complex supervisory, coordinative and management duties in the preparation and publication of printed materials for assigned area. Responsible for the production process and may include scheduling, editing, and design issues. Work is performed under general supervision in accordance with established regulations and procedures.
Major/Essential Functions THREE WRITING SAMPLES ARE REQUIRED TO BE SUBMITTED
Support Texas Tech and its initiatives by producing and editing, on deadline, high quality stories and other forms of written communications that can be used for external and/or internal distribution. Attend and participate in weekly office meetings/brainstorming sessions.
Target specific local, statewide, national and international journalists and online influencers with story and pitch ideas. Work with student interns for collaboration on projects.
Create and maintain strong relationships with individuals in designated coverage areas to consistently generate story ideas and pitches.
Provide media relations duties for designated coverage areas through writing, editing and/or scheduling of news conferences or media interviews. Assist posting content to internal web site and Texas Tech Today.
Create and maintain strong relationships with local, statewide, national and international journalists and online influencers who can help increase the exposure of Texas Tech University. Create and maintain email lists specific to coverage areas.Serve as a reliable media relations representative by responding accurately and promptly to all media requests.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in related area plus three (3) years progressively responsible related experience; OR a combination of specifically related education and/or experience to equal seven (7) years.
Preferred Qualifications BA in Public Relations, Journalism or related area with strong experience in news or promotional writing and interviewing.
Strong background in public relations as well as experience in new media.
Strong news writing, editing, and interviewing skills.
Experience with Associated Press writing style.
Strong interpersonal skills for working with faculty and students in a wide range of disciplines.
Organization and ability to plan ahead and work in a fast-paced environment is a must.
