Position Description Performs Academic Advising, educational, professional, or other advanced Academic Advising or training at the individual or group level as appropriate. Responsibilities may include assisting in the analysis of special and/or complex problems. May supervise Academic Advisors or other employees. Performance is based on individual advising effectiveness and overall program results obtained. Work is performed under standard supervision in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Provides advanced academic, educational, and career advising for all students in Biological Sciences, fostering lasting and beneficial relationships.

  • Participates in college and university efforts to recruit, retain, and graduate a diverse and successful student body, while evaluating and contributing to departmental efforts of same. Includes approximately 27 new student orientations.

  • Maintains communication with student populations and partners via appropriate channels, initiating and sharing as needed.

  • Maintains communication with university administration regarding curriculum and institutional policies regarding degree completion.

  • Pursues and provides accurate information when issues arise, anticipates problems, identifies patterns, and analyses options for optimum potential outcomes.

  • Adopts ongoing quality improvements at the college and university levels, and contributes directly to departmental improvements.

  • Leads by example through strategic participation in professional development and activities, both on campus and off.

Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree required, plus one year relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Banner experience and Cognos reporting experience.

  • Strong time management skills.

  • Strong language skills, use of word and excel processing programs and other standard office software.

  • Sensitivity to individual and cultural differences among client population.

Minimum Hire Rate 15.64

Pay Statement Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.
