Position Description Develops and determines research procedures used in specific projects as well as the day to day operation and supervision of assigned laboratory.
Assist PI in maintaining a supportive and collegial working environment that fosters exchange of ideas and enhances scientific progress.
Design and execution of experiments (animal surgical procedures, cellular isolation and culture, fixation and histological staining of tissue samples, microscopy, SDS-PAGE, western blotting, ELISA, Cloning, PCR, FACS)
Recording procedures and data in laboratory notebook.
Assist PI in analyzing experimental data.
Conduct laboratory support activities (ordering supplies, preparing solutions, washing glassware, etc.)
Preparation of media and media supplements.
Assist PI in misc. tasks (training new students/employees in experimental procedures, library work, preparation of talks, publications and grant applications).
Maintain Laboratory records (expenditures, budget, equipment, manuals and records, animal use records, reagents and experimental protocols, material safety data sheets, biohazardous materials).
Occasional Duties The employee is responsible for aiding graduate and undergraduate students in their research by providing advice or direct help when necessary. The employee may on occasion need to direct student assistants in the performance of general lab maintenance tasks.
Required Qualifications Master's degree in an area directly related to research being conducted. Bachelor's degree in an area directly related to research being conducted, plus two years of job related research may substitute for Master's degree. Two years experience in an area directly related to research being conducted.
