Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities :
Set up and operate lathes to perform a series of machining operations, such as turning, boring, threading or facing of metal work pieces such as castings, forging and barstock according to specifications, method sheets standard sheets and knowledge of turning procedures.
Reads blueprints, job orders, method sheets and standard charts for such specifications as dimensions, tolerances and tooling instructions, such as type of holding fixtures, cutting speeds, feed rates and cutting tools to be used.
Moves controls to set specified rotation speeds, feed rates, and depth of cuts.
Verifies performance of machined work to specifications using fixed gages, calipers and micrometers.
Ability to compute such data as dimensions, rotations speeds, feed rates and machining times using knowledge of shop mathematics and metal properties.
Support all safety and 5S requirements related to this position.
Performs related duties as assigned.
High School Diploma/GED plus 2-4 years of lathe operation experience.
Ability to read complicated drawings, layouts, method sheets and specifications.
Knowledge of shop mathematics and formulas, plus thorough knowledge of all basic lathe operations, methods and set-ups.
Should also be familiar with cutting quality of various metals, grinding and setting of tools according to metal characteristics.
