Position Description Performs managerial work providing direction and guidance in setting and achieving goals and objectives; developing policies; reviewing guidelines, procedures, rules, and regulations; establishing priorities, standards, and measurement tools for determining progress in meeting goals; coordinating and evaluating program activities; and establishing and monitoring budget. May plan, assign, and supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Identifies needs of the international student population and collaborates with other university units to create and implement services to help meet those needs. Assists international students with immediate needs and guides them towards resources on and/or off campus to address those needs.

  • Works with and advises international student organizations to encourage international cultural programming and develop student leadership; assists international student organizations in organizing biannual signature international events (e.g. Worldwide Showcase).

  • Designs and implements cultural activities for international students to experience U.S. and Texas culture. Designs and implements orientation and first week events to assist new international students in adjusting to campus and community life.

Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in area of expertise or closely related area required. Three years of experience in planning, developing, or implementing programs/projects or research grants. Additional education may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in programming and outreach.

  • Extensive experience living, studying, or working abroad.

  • Ability to initiate, organize, and prioritize multiple/competing projects and tasks with a high degree of efficiency and productivity.

  • Must have experience working with international students and familiarity with international student issues.

  • Knowledge of cross-cultural communications and working with international populations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of the Texas Tech University campus and community.

Pay Statement Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.
