Position Description This position is responsible for the planning and organizing of work of journeyman in an assigned trade, the development of material and labor estimates for proposed work, as well as the assigned trade shop budget, inventories, procedures and policies. Work is primarily evaluated for effective use of resources, accomplishment of assigned projects, and adherence to trade standards.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Ensures shop safety and workflow to maximize efficiency and provide quality work on University vehicles, supervise staff as required to provide for shop safety and quality end product.

  • Delegates tasks as required.

  • Ensures that customer billing is fair, accurate and completed in a timely manner.

  • Maintains appropriate inventory level of shop materials, tools and equipment needed to perform work in garage.

  • Integrate new procurement process. Provides evaluations/coaching/training for subordinates as required.

  • Provides customer estimates for needed services.

  • Planning, organizing and maintaining of shop budget and policies and procedures.

  • Trains personnel in all aspects of shop procedures, equipment and safety.

  • Attends scheduled meetings and training as required to maintain technical skills and qualifications.

  • Maintains professional personal appearance and customer-friendly shop.

  • Ensures first class garage services to University.

  • Maintains, secures and operates vehicles, tools, equipment and materials. Maintains CDL to be able to operate all equipment serviced.

  • Also, maintains TTU forklift certification.

  • Certified to perform state vehicle inspections and receives all vehicles for the University.

  • Responsible for refuse and recycling collection across campus.

  • Ensures proper scheduling and minimization of carbon footprint.

  • Responsible for the placement of dumpsters around campus, as well as maintenance and upkeep of dumpsters.

  • Ensures that dumpsters are painted and have proper lids and signage. Maintains inventory of dumpsters.

  • Provides extra dumpsters placed around campus for move-in day and football tailgating.

  • Implement newest technology for minimizing fuel usage and mileage/wear and tear of dumpster trucks.

  • Ensures that all required preventative and regular maintenance is performed on dumpster trucks.

  • Supervises two dumpster truck drivers.

  • Supports the Continuous Improvement Philosophy of the Operations Division and complies with the OD Safety Program to include all safety and health rules, regulations and operating policies and procedures.

  • Complies with all attendance policies and guidelines.

  • Understands and provides backup capabilities for vehicle rental and fueling station.

  • Completes other tasks as assigned by the Fleet Manager.

Required Qualifications Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. Three years experience as a licensed journeyman in the assigned trade; or six years experience in designated trade. Job-related vocational training and other education may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis. Thorough knowledge of the standard tools, equipment, materials, methods and practices of the assigned trade.

Preferred Qualifications CDL License, Propane Certification, State Vehicle Inspection Certification
