The Role: Xylem seeks to hire a Field Service Technician to join the Applied Water Systems group in Lubbock, TX. The Technician will provide technical assistance and warranty repairs in the field, as well as provide Customer and Field Sales support via telephone or on-site. Qualified candidates will have turbine pump product knowledge, the ability to perform pump start-up, to troubleshoot pump problems, and apply an electrical knowledge in the duties of the role. Heavy travel to customer sites (via truck) is involved. Paid overtime will be a part of this role.

Other key skills include excellent customer service, computer knowledge, the ability to work in all climates and a willingness to travel. The Technician will present the corporate to its customers when the pump is installed. The Technician must be able to determine if and when a pump should be installed & run, or removed & repaired when this decision involves the cost of equipment, labor, and lost production worth many thousands of dollars.

Duties Include:

  • Provide start-up supervision, troubleshooting, and installation assistance of pumping systems (includes drivers and auxiliary equipment)

  • Provide warranty service worldwide

  • Train Field Service Technicians

  • Troubleshoot pump installations and systems

  • Analyze failures and propose recommended corrections

  • Supervise start-up activities for new installations

  • Provide onsite training for vertical turbine pumps and maintenance/repairs

  • Determine necessity of and dispatch additional techs needed for projects

  • Handle incoming phone calls regarding Field Service issues

  • Work closely with Customer Service manager to schedule start-ups, troubleshooting, and field service projects

  • Work with customers using photos and phone calls to assist customers with problems in the field

  • Provide training and assistance where needed to other Field Service personnel

  • Sells and invoices for services when applicable

  • All other duties as assigned by Supervisor

  • Willingness to travel several days per week via truck to different locations around the country

  • Willingness to work overtime (paid)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma/G.E.D. required

  • 8+ years of Industry experience

  • Must have a broad knowledge of pump hydraulics, assembly, materials, machine shop practices and engineering functions

  • Must be able to troubleshoot systems, auxiliary equipment and pumps
