Position Description Performs the administrative duties of planning, organizing, directing and coordinating special development efforts. Responsibilities may include: cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual, foundation, and corporate support for the TTU/System; adherence to the prospect management system; and plans, coordinates and evaluates development goals. Responsible for fiscal management of development goals. Work is performed under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative. May supervise subordinate employees.

Major/Essential Functions The Development Officer for the Rawls College of Business will discover, cultivate, solicit and steward individuals, corporations and foundations with the potential to give $50,000 or more while upholding standards of integrity and confidentiality. Will work closely with and under the supervision of Institutional Advancement and the Dean of the Rawls College of Business to accomplish agreed upon fundraising projects and goals.

Essential Functions:

  • The Development Officer for the Rawls College of Business will be responsible for raising major gifts ($25,000+) to further the mission that Texas Tech University has implemented as a Tier 1 Research Institution.

  • Manage a portfolio of major giving prospects for the Rawls College of Business focusing on building relationships by making face-to face visits with donors and prospects monthly, presenting proposals, and soliciting major gifts.

  • Serve as the liaison between the Rawls College of Business and Institutional Advancement.

  • Enter contact reports after each visit to ensure donor records are kept up to date.

  • Work collaboratively with the Dean of the Rawls College of Business and Institutional Advancement to promote development at alumni and special events to improve donor relations.

  • With assistance from the Dean, develop and oversee a comprehensive development program for meeting the college's primary funding needs on an annual and long-term basis.

  • Meet goals for visits, asks, and gifts secured as established each fiscal year.

  • Engage in effective interpersonal relationships; work cooperatively with the Texas Tech Institutional Advancement team and the Rawls College of Business and staff as appropriate.

Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree plus three years development or sales related experience. Additional education may substitute on a year for year basis for experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years of experience in university development/fundraising

  • Proven track record of fundraising; having personally secured major gifts of $100,000 to $1M+; and annual production of $1M to $2M+ per year

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, writing and presentation skills

  • Exceptional initiative and the ability to work with limited direct supervision

  • Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills

  • The ability and willingness to travel 60-80% of your time

  • A good knowledge of all aspects of fundraising including annual giving, planned giving, campaign management, and strategic planning

  • Demonstrated competency in Microsoft Office and an aptitude to learn the Advance database system

Minimum Hire Rate 4413.92

Pay Statement Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.
