Position Description Reviews official medical records with physician/healthcare provider documentation and assigns appropriate codes for all physician/healthcare provider services from current editions of official coding sources. Ensures accurate, complete, and timely code assignments for all physician/healthcare providers.

Major/Essential Functions 1. 100% chart audits, coding and clearing of provider clinic, lab, radiology and hospital claims specializing by site to include Pavilion (teaching clinic), Grand Expectations, The Center for Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, The Center for Perinatal Medicine, Southwest OBGYN Associates, Gynecological Oncology at SWCC, OBGYN Lab and Embryology Lab.

  1. Audit, code and clear claims from Missing Charge Reports by site mentioned in #1.

  2. Educate physicians on correct coding and documentation practices. Communicate to physicians any overdue documentation needed to bill

  3. Responsible for the proper handling of all inquiries from internal and external parties relative to patient accounts.

  4. Audit the "Did Not Extract" list and bill accordingly.

  5. Audit denials, rebill, appeal accordingly.

  6. Audit Self-Pay accounts, discount, rebill, appeal and make collection calls.

  7. Process sterilization consents as required by carrier.

  8. Audit contract logs or timely and accurate reimbursement.

  9. Meet daily, weekly and month end goals

  10. Maintain coding certification(s) by attending professional development events and earning required CEU's.

  11. Communicate with and prep/submit proper documentation to third-party coding resources.

  12. Meet Coding Productivity Goals

  13. Professional Development Promote, Assess, and evaluate the education needs and requirements specific to your job discipline.

  14. Contribute to key performance indicators clinical transformation, financial performance, patient satisfaction, business development and people development

Occasional Duties Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent plus at least two (2) years of coding and reimbursement experience that includes procedural and diagnosis coding. OR A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent plus successful completion of a recognized procedural and diagnosis coding course.

Preferred Qualifications Certification:

Current certification through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or the American Health

Information Management Association (AHIMA) in the following areas:

  • Certified Coding Specialist-Physician based (CCS-P)

  • Certified Coding Specialists (CCS)

  • Certified in Healthcare Privacy (CHP)

  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

  • Certified Coding Associate

Certified through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) as a Certified Obstretics

Gynecology Coder (COBGC)
