Position Description Performs the administrative duties of planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating special development efforts. Responsibilities may include: cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual, foundation, and corporate support for the TTU/System; adherence to the prospect management system; and plans, coordinates and evaluates development goals. Work is performed under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative.

Major/Essential Functions

  • The Assistant Director of Development for the area will be responsible for raising major gifts ($25,000+) to further the mission that Texas Tech University has implemented as a Tier 1 Research Institution.

  • Manage a portfolio of major giving prospects for the area focusing on building relationships by making face-to face visits with donors and prospects monthly, presenting proposals, and soliciting major gifts.

  • Serve as the liaison between the area and Institutional Advancement.

  • Enter contact reports after each visit to ensure donor records are kept up to date.

  • Work collaboratively with the Athletic Director and Institutional Advancement to promote development at alumni and special events to improve donor relations.

  • With assistance from the Athletic Director, develop and oversee a comprehensive development program for meeting the college's primary funding needs on an annual and long-term basis.

  • Meet goals for visits, asks, and gifts secured as established each fiscal year.

  • Engage in effective interpersonal relationships; work cooperatively with the Texas Tech Institutional Advancement team and college staff as appropriate.

Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree plus one (1) year development or sales experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience equal to five (5) years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 Year of experience in sales/marketing or university development/fundraising.

  • Experience in a position that requires extensive travel.

  • Proven record of accomplishment in fundraising; having personally secured major gifts of $100,000 to $1M+; and annual production of $1M to $2M + per year.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, writing, and presentation skills.

  • Exceptional initiative and the ability to work with limited direct supervision.

  • Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills.

  • The ability and willingness to travel 60-80% of your time.

  • A good knowledge of all aspects of fundraising and/or marketing or sales.

  • Demonstrated ability to build successful long-term relationships in a professional work environment.

  • Demonstrated competency in Microsoft Office and an aptitude to learn the Advance database system.

Pay Statement Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.
