Position Description

Contributes to the university’s mission through teaching, research and service, some variation by academic unit.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Develop and teach graduate STEM courses and quantitative and/or mixed methods research method courses that foster graduate students' conceptual understanding and measurable skills - specifically in face-to-face, online, and blended formats
  • Partner with schools and/or professional organizations and agencies to ensure meaningful, collaborative research, teaching, and practice
  • Conduct and publish peer refereed research that meaningfully contributes to the improvement of policy, program, and practice of STEM education and/or closely related fields
  • Involve, support, and supervise students in conducting research and professional practices in a manner that promotes their synthesis and application of their knowledge and skills developed in the program studies
  • Apply for, obtain, and manage external funding to support research and the improvement of professional practice
  • Serve as a advisor of graduate students, chair, and member of doctoral committees, and direct student research work
  • Offer service at department, college, and university levels
  • Contribute to the advancement of specialization and program goals through various kinds of professional service Candidates who have very strong records of scholarship supported by extramural funding and who have the proven capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to Texas Tech are encouraged to apply. Required Qualifications

Academic degree as defined by the academic unit and as appropriate for the position held. Demonstrated record of effectiveness as a teacher, a record of peer reviewed publication and/or peer-reviewed creative activity which has contributed to the discipline or field of study, to the candidate’s intellectual and artistic development, and to the quality of the academic enterprise; a record of professional service appropriate to the discipline; promise of growth in teaching and research or artistic and creative activity.

Preferred Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

  1. A doctorate in STEM education or closely related field
  2. At least three years of EC-12 teaching experiences in either formal or informal settings
  3. A track-record or potential for peer-refereed publications and conference presentations in the field of STEM education
  4. A strong background in conducting research, especially intervention research, in STEM education using quantitative and/or mixed method research methodologies
  5. A solid understanding of the literature, policies, and issues of STEM education
  6. Experience working with diverse student populations Preference will be given to candidates with:

  7. Experience in engineering and/or technology and how they are used in schools, teacher induction programs, and teacher development contexts

  8. A track-record of college-level teaching
  9. Evidence of skills to develop and teach face-to-face, blended, and online STEM graduate level courses and quantitative research methods courses
  10. A history of obtaining external funding
  11. Experience working in teacher education, professional development, and/or teacher induction programs domestically and internationally
  12. A track-record of conducting research in STEM using large databases and various statistics modeling in the international contexts
  13. Experience working with high-need student populations and first-generation students
  14. Experience working as an active collaborator and leader in a team work context within an institution and/or across different institutions domestically and internationally
  15. A track-record of engagement with local, national, and/or international professional organizations and agencies
